Sareen Hairabedian is a documentary filmmaker currently living between Washington D.C. and New York. She grew up in Jordan in a home filled with film, dance and music, which enriched her cultural experience that later shaped her voice as a creator of human-driven documentaries. Her eagerness to tell socially conscious stories led to her foundation of HAI Creative, a media production company that collaborates with artists and organizations such as HBO, United Nations Women, United States Institute of Peace, AJ+ and others to help bring stories of the unheard and underrepresented to screen. Sareen’s directorial debut WE ARE NOT DONE YET is an HBO documentary that highlights a group of U.S. veterans who use art and poetry to process their traumatic pasts. The film won Best Documentary Short award at the G.I. Film Festival in San Diego and was nominated for Best Documentary Short at the 2018 International Documentary Association awards. Sareen is currently developing her next documentary in her native homeland, tackling issues of identity, resilience and connection to land. When she's not working on films, Sareen connects to her dance background and experiments in merging movement and choreography with technology.
The District of Columbia Office of Cable Television, Film, Music, and Entertainment (OCTFME) recognized Sareen Hairabedian as the December 2018 Filmmaker of the Month. https://entertainment.dc.gov/release/fotm-DECEMBER-2018
